Scope and Contents

The collection consists of an account book, 1872-1883, kept by physician William Brower, 1842-1919. Accounts are recorded under the names of individuals, and the volume has a name index. Entries under each account list the services rendered and their cost, who received the service, and any payments made. The bulk of entries list only visit as the service, but more description, such as vaccination, is occasionally provided.

Biographical / Historical

William Brower, physician, was born in 1842. He died in Spring City, Pa. on 26 Apr. 1919. Dr. Brower received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in 1867. He lived and praticed medicine in Spring City, Pa. Dr. Brower served in a number of financial and civic positions, including President of the National Bank of Spring City, President of the Spring City Building and Loan Association, and President of the Spring CitySchool Board. He was a member of the Chester County Medical Society, Chester County Historical Society, and Pennsylvania German Society.
